A single factory in Shunde in Guangdong province employs 30,000 people and makes nearly half the world’s microwaves; a thousand factories in Zhejiang province make 40 per cent of the world’s neckties. I recall reading stories about ‘Free Tibet’ flags being made in China. And a large number of Ganesha and Buddha idols now come from there.
